Thomas Breen was stabbed to death in Camden Town outside the Elephant's Head pub on 10 August 2002.
A person was arrested shortly after but no one was ever charged.
He had been out for the night with a friend from work when he was stabbed in the chest in the street in an unprovoked attack following an altercation with two men. His friend was also stabbed but his injuries were not serious.
Thomas Breen died in hospital at 12.20am on 11 August 2002.
They were attacked in Camden High Street near the junction with Hawley Road.
The two men were thought to have been seen on CCTV leaving the Elephant's Head pub shortly before the stabbings. The two men were described as white. One of them was said to be about 30-years-old, 5ft 10in tall and with a stocky build. The other man was said to be in his 20s with a stocky build and with short dark hair. A photofit of the 30-years-old was later released and the police said that they thought that it had been him that had carried out both stabbings.
However, CCTV from along Camden High Street was all pointing the wrong way.
The police dredged the canal for the murder weapon but without luck.
it had been a busy summer night, no witnesses to the attack were found. and the friend that Thomas Breen also had a memory blackout and was unable to help the police. Hypnosis was tried to see if he could remember anything, but with no result.
Thomas Breen was from Downpatrick in Northern Ireland and was a builder. He had come to London for work having left his wife and children at their home in Northern Ireland.
