George Alfred Oates

Age: 29

Sex: male

Date: 2 Nov 1915

Place: Red Barracks, Woolwich

George Alfred Oates was found at the bottom of a window.

He had fallen 30 feet from a French window. It was noted that the railing on the balcony had been quite low.

It was heard that he had earlier been in the canteen with another man where they had had a pint of ale each after which George Oates had retired to rest in his dormitory just before 10pm when the lights were put out.

Later in the night he was found lying unconscious on the ground.

He was taken to the Royal Herbert Hospital where he later died.

His brother said that George Oates would talk in his sleep, but never walk.

He was a private in the Army Ordnance Corps.

An open verdict was returned.
