The body of a newly-born child was found in a garden in Netherton Grove.

A policeman said that he found the body at 5.20pm on the Saturday under some shrubs in the garden.

He said that when he opened it he found that it contained the body of a newly-born male child.

A doctor said that the child had lived for about 24 hours and was a full-time child and well developed, weighing 8lbs 12ozs and 21 inches long.

He said that there was no sign of injury and that death was due to suffocation.

An open verdict was returned.
