Jordan Bari

Age: 20

Sex: male

Date: 3 Oct 2016

Place: William Rathbone House, Florida Street, Bethnal Green

Jordan Bari was shot dead at point blank range after answering the door to a flat in Florida Street, Bethnal Green, just after 8pm on 3 October 2016 in what was thought was a case of mistaken identity.

He was pronounced dead just after 8.45pm.

Three men were tried for his manslaughter but acquitted after a trial at the Old Bailey on 19 June 2017. They were said to have shot him in connection with a £3,200 drug debt.

At the trial, the prosecution said that they were unable to prove who pulled the trigger but suggested that all three of the men were involved, along with a fourth man, in an attempt to intimidate the occupants of the flat.

His post mortem gave his cause of death as being a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Neighbours in the flats said that they heard a number of gunshots in the communal hallway there.

Jordan Bari had lived in Stratford and it was said that he had been visiting the flat at the time.

It was said that the flat in Florida Street had been being used for drug dealing and that the three men had gone there in relation to a £3,200 drug debt. Jordan Bari had been there at the time to celebrate a friend's birthday and had let the men in. The trial heard that it was not clear whether Jordan Bari had spoken to the men over the flat's intercom telephone before buzzing them in or not. However, moments later there was a loud bang and he had been shot.

A witness said that when they went to look they saw a man crouching over Jordan Bari who was on the floor and then saw the man run off. Three men were later seen in CCTV footage running off from the flat into Derbyshire Street and off towards Brady Street. Two of the men were seen passing something between themselves.

The fourth man was said to have fled the country but was still wanted by the police following the acquittal of the three men.

A neighbour said that they were watching television when they heard a big bang, saying, 'It sounded like someone had chucked something off the roof. There was loud banging on our door, but I was too scared to open it. I looked down from the balcony and saw we were surrounded by police. A neighbour told us there’d been a murder down there'.

Another person that lived in the flats said, 'There was blood all over the stairs. There’s normally someone shouting in our block but there was no arguing, just a bang'.

Shortly after his murder the police examined a silver Vauxhall Zafira and blue saloon car that were parked outside in the drive.

Jordan Bari had been a pupil at Brampton Manor Academy in Newham. and had been a black-belt in taekwondo and had won a number of trophies and titles for his club, the Gurumu Taekwondo Club. He had previously excelled as a teenager at Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art. At the time of his murder he had been working at the Captain’s Table fish and chip shop in Poplar, London.
