Dennis Inkles

Age: 8

Sex: male

Date: 28 Jul 1933

Place: Attercliffe Common

Dennis Inkles was run over by a motor-car on Attercliffe Common on 28 July 1933.

He was taken to the Children's Hospital at Western Bank in Sheffield suffering from a fractured skull where he later died.

The driver of the car was from Woodfoot Farm in Whiston and he said that he had 15 years' experience as a driver. He said that he saw Dennis Inkles running with his head down against the rain having just come from behind a tramcar.

At his inquest the coroner said that there were two possible verdicts on the evidence given, the first being accidental death and the other an open verdict which would mean that there might be some blame attached to the driver. It was noted that all the independent witnesses seemed to blame the driver and an open verdict was returned.

He had lived in Kingslake Street in Attercliffe, Sheffield.
