Arthur Turnbull

Arthur Turnbull died from poison four days after he was married.

An open verdict was returned with death stated as being due to carbolic acid poisoning.

His 21 year-old wife said that there had been a quarrel and he had been depressed. She said that he earned good pay.

A neighbour said that she had been attending Arthur Turnbull's sister who had been suffering from tuberculosis in the neck for the past two years and said that Arthur Turnbull had had a sore throat and said that he might have had the impression that he was suffering from the same disease.

Arthur Turnbull's father said that he had had dinner with Arthur Turnbull and his wife on the day he died and said that after the meal Arthur Turnbull had helped his wife clear up. He said that Arthur Turnbull's wife then went upstairs and that Arthur Turnbull then went into the scullery and that when he came out he had froth on his mouth.

He was taken to the Newcastle Infirmary where he died.

A bottle of carbolic acid was found stood on a table.

Arthur Turnbull was a miner.
