The body of a newly-born female child was found in a lake at Gledhow Park Wood.
It was found by a park ranger who saw four swans pulling at an object which he then found was the body of the child.
A doctor that examined the child said that it had died from asphyxia from drowning.
He said that the body appeared to have been in the water for five to six days.
