Dean Eccleston

Age: 24

Sex: male

Date: 1 Oct 2001

Place: Shakespeare Walk, Chorlton-on-Medlock

Dean Eccleston was shot seven times in Shakespeare Walk as he left a friend’s house.

He had been wearing a bullet proof vest at the time. His mother later noted that he also used to sleep with a gun under his pillow.

His mother said that she knew who the gunmen were but said that witnesses were too scared to come forward. She said that they were members of the Gooch Close Gang.

It was noted that Dean Eccleston's friend, who had been with him at the time he was shot, didn't attend the inquest. Dean Eccleston's mother said that the man had given her the names of the men that had shot Dean Eccleston but would not make a statement to the police naming them. A detective sergeant said that if the man had given them the names of the men involved then they would probably have been able to prosecute them.

The inquest heard that there had been a large police investigation into his murder that had involved 28,000 man-hours and that 195 statements were taken.

It was noted that although Dean Eccleston had previously spent time in prison, he had not been a member of the Longsight Crew.
