The body of a newly-born child was found in a brook.

It was thought that the body had been in the water since the morning of the day on which it was found.

A man said that on the morning of 13 June 1912 he was in a field near Nest Lane when he saw two women go along the lane, saying that one of them was carrying a parcel about a foot to a foot and a half long and said that the parcel had appeared to be about the same colour as some sacking that he was shown at the inquest. He said that from the field he could see that the outer cover of the parcel that the woman was carrying was sacking.

The man gave descriptions of the two woman and said that he would recognise them if he saw them again.

A man that was employed at the macadam works near to where the body was found said that he saw two women on the bridge over the brook and said that one of them was carrying a parcel. He said that he saw that as they walked a short distance across Nest Field, that they turned and returned back towards the bridge, but said that he didn't notice their movements any further.

When he was questioned, he said that the two women looked respectably dressed, but noted that one of them looked as if she wanted a wash.

A policeman said that he examined the wrappings that the child had been found in but said that he could not find anything to help make any identifications.

An open verdict was returned.
