George Andus

George Andus was found dead in a ditch with a broken neck.

He was a farm hand.

His body was found by two village youths that were walking along the boundary drain separating the fens.

They found him standing upright, dead, in the ditch with the water up to his chin, and with his feet sunk deep into the mud.

A rope was placed under his arms and his body was pulled out by six men and three boys.

His post-mortem found that he died from a broken neck. It was also found that he had a body strap around his neck although it was quite loose and unbuckled. A doctor said that it was not probable that his neck had been broken by hanging.

The police found 11s. 8d., a watch and an insurance card with one stamp on it in his clothing.

His inquest heard that there was no evidence to show how his neck had been broken and an open verdict was returned.
