Man

The body of a man was found in the River Thames at the entrance to Shadwell Dock.

He was described as being about 55 years of age, about 5ft 9in tall, bald, clean shaven and with good teeth. He had been wearing dark grey tweed trousers and a jacket with the words 'Isaac Walton, Newcastle' on a tab, a light tweed vest, a blue striped Oxford shirt with the name 'Harold Williams, 270, Kentish Town Road' on the collar, a blue leather belt with a snake buckle, white cotton socks and black laced shoes. He also had a white cotton handkerchief on him.

On his body there was found a boat ticket for the City Steamboat Company (Greenwich to London Bridge) and two linen collars marked 'Cromwell and Sons' with the laundry mark A 433 on them.

He also had a penny, a large piece of concrete, a hammer head, a piece of lead and a small stone about him.

An open verdict was returned.
