Age: 0

Sex: female

Date: 1 Apr 1933

Place: Swanwick Station

The body of a newly-born child was found on the permanent way of the Southern Railway near Swanwick Station.

It was found by a signalman wrapped in a newspaper parcel. It was thought that it had either been placed where it was found or thrown from a railway carriage.

When a doctor examined it, he found that it was a newly-born female child which was fully developed and weighed six pounds.

He said that there were no external marks of injury and that it had been born alive and that death was due to shock and haemorrhage of the brain following an injury to the head due either to a blow or a fall.
