Reginald James Leach

Age: 56

Sex: male

Date: 3 Aug 1933

Place: Steamer Lady Kathleen, Blyth

Reginald James Leach was found semi-conscious in the bathroom of the steamer Lady Kathleen. He was taken to Blyth Hospital where he died.

He was found on the Monday 31 July 1933 by a shipyard workman and died on Wednesday 2 August 1933.

He had a contusion to his forehead and various other injuries about his body and was taken to the hospital immediately after he was found.

At his inquest a doctor said that it was not possible to state whether the cranial haemorrhage which was the cause of his death had resulted from a blow or from natural causes.

Reginald Leach was a captain and had been acting as watchman on the vessel over the weekend.

The steamer Lady Kathleen was run by the New Era Shipping Company out of Cardiff. At the inquest a solicitor representing the New Era Shipping Company said that the case called for a post-mortem, but the coroner said that the matter was out of his hands. However, after the verdict that his death was due to cranial haemorrhage, set up by a blow or by natural causes, was returned, it was agreed to get a specialist from Newcastle to carry out a post-mortem.

Reginald Leach had lived in Cathedral Row in Cardiff.
