Place: Stretford Road, Old Trafford

Chris Coady was ambushed by a gang armed with machetes and hacked to death near the Platford Pub on Stretford Road on the night of 5 September 1997.

A man was arrested and charged with his murder but the charge was later dropped due to lack of evidence. The man that was charged with his murder was later convicted of another murder in Hulme in 2003.

Chris Coady's murder was described as a gangland killing.

He was still alive when paramedics arrived and was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary but was pronounced dead on arrival.

They said that Chris Coady had been attacked by a gang of three or four men that had the lower parts of their faces covered.

He had been on his way to the Three Legs of Man pub near his home in Empress Court at about 10pm when he was attacked near the Platford pub which is now closed.
