Elsie Hughes was found in a pool of blood at her home on Hawarden Road, Abermorddu, on 8 September 2005.
It was thought that she had disturbed some intruders who had then attacked her.
They left after stealing about £200.
Elsie Hughes was later found on the floor by her daughter with severe facial injuries at 8.58pm and taken to Wrexham Maelor hospital at 9.05pm where she died the following day on 9 September 2005.
Her cause of death was given as being due to severe head and neck injuries.
The police found a distinctive Nike trainer footprint at the scene that was thought to have belonged to her killer.
She had previously been the victim of a distraction burglary on 15 August 2005, and it was thought that the murder was related. In the previous distraction burglary a man and a woman had stolen her £1k savings. A woman was tried for the burglary in December 2007 but cleared.
Elsie Hughes had been a retired dinner lady.
