Iris Bellwood fell from a train at Temple Hirst between Doncaster and Selby on 7 February 1934.
Her father was tried for her murder but acquitted at the York Assizes after it was heard that there was insufficient evidence to convict him.
The court heard that they had been alone in the compartment together.
Tests were made on the locks of the carriage door.
At the inquest following the trial the verdict returned was, 'Death by misadventure, was insufficient evidence to show how compartment door was opened'.
