Nathaniel James Evans

Age: 35

Sex: male

Date: 20 Sep 1934

Place: Coombs Rock, Charlesworth, Glossop

Nathaniel James Evans was found dead at Coombs Rock near Charlesworth.

A 20-year-old girl from Cliffe Street in Higher Broughton was charged with his murder but acquitted.

It was heard that Nathaniel Evans and the girl had formed an attachment with each other, although the girl had not known that Nathaniel Evans was married.

The prosecution had said that the girl had been in a certain condition and that they had formed a suicide pact.

It was heard that on 20 September 1934 the girl had run to a farmhouse and said that Nathaniel Evans had taken salts of lemon and that she had also tried to choke herself with his tie.

At her trial, the girl pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted suicide and was bound over for twelve months.
