Elsie Sweetman died from an illegal operation.
A woman was tried for her murder after Elsie Sweetman made a dying declaration against her but it was heard that at the time that she had made the declaration it was not believed that she was going to die as after she had made plans to get married. It was also heard that there might have been an accomplice and that the declaration should have been heard by both of the accused.
However, the woman initially tried for her murder was convicted of carrying out an illegal operation and sentenced to five years imprisonment.
Elsie Sweetman was also known as Dorothy OConnell.
