Hannah Massey Shaw

Age: 50

Sex: female

Date: 13 Dec 1901

Place: Harold Street, Salford

Hannah Massey Shaw died from a head injury.

She had been living with a man in Harold Street but was said to have been addicted to drink and they were said to quarrel.

They were heard to have a drunken quarrel on the Monday night during which Hannah Shaw received two black eyes.

Then, on the Thursday night they had another drunken quarrel after which Hannah Shaw was found in an unconscious condition on the sofa and was taken to Hope Hospital where she later died.

A doctor said that her cause of death was haemorrhage to the right side of her brain and that he didn't think that it had been caused by a fall because there were no external bruises. However, he said that the haemorrhage might have been a natural one because it was found in a very common position.

An open verdict was returned.
