Mary Frogman

Mary Frogman was found injured in the street and was taken to the Hammersmith Infirmary where she later died.

She was found by a policeman at 11.30pm on 3 September 1908 lying in the footway of Norland Road. It was raining at the time and there was no one with her. When a doctor examined her he found that she had suffered from an epileptic fit and she was sent to the infirmary where she arrived only half conscious.

She had bitten her tongue which was said to have suggested that she had had an epileptic fit.

Her body was found to be covered with extensive bruises and injuries, including marks on her arms where she had been grasped by fingers and grazes on her elbows. She also had bruises on her hands, arms, fingers, hips and thighs as well as extensive bruising over her buttocks. Her left eye was blackened, and she had cuts on her forehead and lip.

The doctor said that all the bruising was recent and that one of the bruises was nearly a foot long.

She stayed in hospital until 15 September 1908 when she died.

Her post-mortem stated that she had died from the effects of coma from cerebral haemorrhage.

The doctor said that he could not decide whether her injuries were caused by falls or direct violence.

Whilst in hospital she said that she had lived with a man that had kicked and knocked her about and then gone off with another woman.

An open verdict was returned.
