Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 12 Nov 1908

Place: Beechen Cliff, Bath

The body of a newly-born female child was found on Beechen Cliff.

It was found by a gardener that had been walking along Beechen Cliff at about 7.05am. He saw a parcel on the right-hand side of the footpath there, secured with string. When he opened it he found that it contained the body of the child wrapped up in underclothing.

The police surgeon that examined the child said that it had been born prematurely but because of the state of the body he could not say whether violence had been used on it or whether it had been born alive.

When the Coroner summed up he remarked that the evidence didn't amount to anything.
