Russell Brown

Age: 26

Sex: male

Date: 12 Sep 2016

Place: Zander Court, Nelson Gardens, Bethnal Green, East London

Russell Brown was stabbed at a party on 10 September 2016 and taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where he died on 12 September 2016.

Two men were tried for his murder at the Old Bailey but acquitted.

It was said that people had been drinking and taking cocaine at the party in a second-floor maisonette in Zander Court and that a guest had become agitated after which there was a fight. The fight then spilled out into the courtyard where Russell Brown was stabbed.

After he was stabbed, paramedics were called, and they performed open heart surgery on him at the scene before taking him to the Royal London Hospital.

Russell Brown was a handyman and had lived in Bow. He had slipped out of his home in the middle of the night to go to the party, but never returned.

At the time he had been planning to give his kidney to his aunt who had no working kidneys and who was on dialysis after he was found to have been a match. He had been to the hospital and was booked in to donate his kidney in the beginning of November 2016, but he died before he could do so. It was said that after he was stabbed, he had asked a doctor if he could donate his kidney then, but by that time his kidney was already failing.

More than 1,000 people attended his funeral. His parents arranged for photos of him in his coffin to be taken as a reminder and warning of the dangers of knife crime.
