Michael McLean died inside an industrial cable spooler at a factory.

A man was tried for starting the machine whilst Michael McLean had been in it but a verdict of not proven was returned.

Michael McLean had been on a summer work experience scheme at Denholm MacNamee Ltd, also known as Denholm Oilfield Services, on Inverurie Business Park and was on his last day, 14 August 2015.

Michael McLean had got inside the cable spooler and it had started whilst he was inside.

After he was found he was taken to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he was put on a life-support machine, but it was later switched off.

The 23-year-old was tried for his culpable homicide but denied having started the machine whilst Michael McLean was in it. He said that he wasn't there when the machine started. He said, 'When I left him, he was mixing up the paint. I went away and came back about five to ten minutes later. I saw Michael lying in the drum of the wheel. At first I just thought he was lying in it, then I noticed he was blue'.

Michael McLean's father had also worked at the company.

Michael McLean had been a pupil at Kincorth Academy in Aberdeen.
