Teresa Louise Howlett

Teresa Louise Howlett died following an abortion.

She was taken to the Blackpool Sanatorium where she later died on Monday 15 July 1935.

Her mother said that Teresa Howlett had told her about her condition on 29 June 1935 and had shown her some pills that she had taken and said that she became ill on 2 July 1935 but said that Teresa Howlett had refused to have a doctor called until 12 July 1935 at which time she was immediately ordered to the sanatorium where she later died on the Monday.

The police surgeon that carried out her post-mortem said that her death was due to septicaemia following abortion.

The Coroner said that there was no evidence that an instrument had been used and said that Teresa Howlett had unfortunately taken certain pills in large quantities and that her death was the result. He added that it was a pity that her parents had not called in a doctor earlier when she was taken ill as her life might have otherwise been saved.

The Coroner then suggested that an open verdict be returned, which it was.
