Thomas Quinn

Thomas Quinn was found dead in the Mersey with head injuries.

He had been a general labourer and had lived in a lodging house in Barbauld Street in Warrington.

His body was found in the Mersey at Warrington Bridge on Friday 26 July 1935 and was pulled out in the presence of a crowd of 2,000 people.

A doctor said that he thought that his body had probably been in the water for about three days.

He had an injury to his right eye.

He said that there was no water in his lungs and that he thought that his death was due to heart failure, probably brought about by shock from the injury to his right eye and the sudden immersion in the water.

The doctor noted that the back of his skull was also smashed but said that he thought that that injury had been caused by some passing boat after his death.

The deputy model lodging house keeper in Barbauld Street said that he last saw Thomas Quinn on the Monday, 22 July 1935 but had been told that he had gone back to Manchester and so when he didn't return he didn't report him as missing to the police.

An open verdict was returned stating that he had injuries to his right eye but that it was not possible to state under what circumstances he had come to be in the water.
