The body of a newly-born child was found in a brown paper parcel on the porch of St Gregory's Church in Castle Hedingham.
The parcel had the words, 'Somebody’s darling baby girl' written on it.
A post-mortem revealed that it had died from chloroform poisoning, however, further investigation indicated that there was no evidence that chloroform had been used.
A domestic servant was later charged with the child’s murder on 3 December 1935 but the Public Prosecutor offered no evidence.
