The body of a newly-born child was found in the Grand Union Canal near Scrubs Lane in Hammersmith.
The pathologist said that he thought that the body had been in the water for about three or four days and that death had been due to drowning.
The Coroner said that there was the possibility that the child had died inhaling fluids perhaps on the bed in the room where it was born and that it might have then been thrown into the river dead and an open verdict was returned.
