Frederick James Hibbard was run over by a car that didn't stop on 2 January 1937.
He had lived in Park Grove, Wordsworth Road in Small Heath, Birmingham.
It was heard that the car that had knocked him over was similar in appearance to a car that had been stolen the same night, and which was later found damaged and abandoned in another part of Birmingham.
When the Coroner summed up he said that the evidence did not definitely establish that the stolen car and the car that had knocked Frederick Hibbard over were the same cars, and also added that the jury should bear in mind the fact that the driver that had knocked Frederick Hibbard over might have conceivably had some explanation.
