Alan Colin Gilroy Coward died after his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a cart.
It was said that the cart had been driven without lights by gypsies but that they were being shielded.
He was taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital where he died after a collision with a cart on the Guildford to Horsham Road on 28 November 1936.
A police officer that attended the accident said that the cart driver was a gypsy type and had given him the name of George Smith of Tower Street in Heathfield, Sussex. However, the police could not find him. They said that they went to a gipsy camp at Baynards in Surrey and said that they had reason to believe that they knew where the man was but that they were shielding him.
Alan Coward was a surveyor and had lived in Burpham, Guildford.
An open verdict was returned at his inquest.
