John Thomas Fuge was found dead in the yard of Messrs. Curtis and Son in Ordnance Row.
He died from a fracture to the right side of his skull, although it was not known how he had come by the injury.
He had lived in Chapel Row in Gosport and had been a labourer and a Naval Reservist.
