Date: 24 Mar 1910
Place: Markeaton Brook
The body of a newly-born child was found in Markeaton Brook near Nuns Bridge.
It was wrapped up in brown paper and a piece of blanket. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition and was covered in a white substance that was thought to be lime.
The doctor that examined it said that he thought that that it had had a separate existence and had been born alive. He said that he thought that it had been dead for at least a month, and possibly three months, but said that he did not think that it had been in the water for more than a couple of days.
He said that there was no indication as to the cause of death.
