The body of a newly-born child was found in a ditch on the Southend Road near to Priors Park in South Hornchurch.
It was found in the water by some school children that had been passing. They had thought that it was a doll and had tried to pull it out with sticks.
They inquest stated that the child had undoubtedly been born alive but that there was evidence of inattention and a verdict that death was due to inattention at birth was returned.
