Mary Ellen Clarke died from septicaemia in September 1937.
Her husband said that she had complained of pains for some time prior to her death. He added that as far as he knew, nobody had visited their house other than the nurse that had attended to her when her three other children were born.
She had been taken to the Nottingham General Hospital where she died ten minutes after admission.
When the Coroner asked Mary Clarke's husband whether he could give them any further assisance or explanation for her death, he replied, 'No, I can't give you any'.
An open verdict was returned, allowing police to carry out further enquiries.
Mary Clarke and her family had lived at 2 Rancliffe Terrace off Pym Street, Nottingham.
Rancliffe Terrace, along with most of Pym Street has since been demolished, but was where St Ann's Adventure Playground is today. Pym Street ran from its eastern extent, which still survives today by Hogarth Street, westward to join Peas Hill Road at St Ann's Well Road.
