Age: 0

Sex: female

Date: 20 Feb 1937

Place: Royal Victoria Park, Bath

The body of a newly-born female child was found in some shrubbery at the Royal Victoria Park in Bath.

It was found tied up in a brown-paper parcel in the shrubbery that bounded the Weston Road by workmen for the Parks Department of the Corporation who were tidying the park up.

It was noted that when the parcel was found no attempt was made at first to ascertain its contents because the workmen were so used to frequently finding parcels that contained rubbish.

The doctor that examined the child’s body said that it had had a separate existence and said that the cause of death was the absence of care at birth.

The jury returned an open verdict, stating that there was not enough evidence to state the exact cause of death.
