William Thomas Copeland

William Thomas Copeland was found dead in the River Thames.

He was a bank teller from Dundee Street in Carnoustie.

He had left his lodgings on 12 March 1938, telling his landlady that he was going to Glasgow for the weekend, but never returned.

His body was then later found in the River Thames at Twickenham on 19 March 1938.

The police said that he had a watch on him when he was found, but no money. They said that the only papers he had on him were the address of his brother in London and the half return of a ticket between Dundee and Glasgow, dated 12 March 1938.

The Coroner said that it was a very curious case because there was so very little to go on. He said that William Copeland might have been suffering from memory loss.

An open verdict was returned.
