Elizabeth Annie Soan was knocked down by a dark coloured saloon car that didn't stop.
She had been crossing the Portsmouth Road in Cobham at the junction with Anyards Road when she was knocked down.
She was taken to Cobham Cottage Hospital where she later died from bruising of the brain.
The Coroner said that there was no doubt that a motor car had been involved in her death, but said that it could not be stated whether it was an accident or misadventure and an open verdict was returned.
Elizabeth Soan was from River Hill in Cobham and was buried at Cobham Cemetery on 7 January 1939.
