Age: 60-70
Sex: female
Date: 2 Dec 1938
Place: Goring
The naked body of an unidentified woman was found on the seashore at Goring.
The body was found by a Corporation sea defence workman.
Her ankles had been bound by two handkerchiefs.
It was said that her body had been in the water for too long for it to be recognised or for the cause of death to be ascertained. A doctor that examined her body said that he thought that she was between 60-70 years of age and had been in the water for between 10 or 12 days.
It was noted that she had been wearing a chased gold wedding ring of a new design and a very heavy gold dress ring, set with a sapphire and two diamonds.
The policeman that examined her body said that her ankles were bound by two handkerchiefs, one a man's handkerchief bearing the initials WAR and the other a woman's handkerchief bearing the monogram FR.
A verdict of found dead on the seashore was returned.
