Ernest Morris was found shot in a wood at Fenns Bank near Whitchurch.

He was found with a shotgun wound to the chin.

He had been on a rabbiting expedition with some friends.

A school teacher from Malpas Drive in Tibberley that had been in the party said that he had to leave early and had given his gun to Ernest Morris saying that he could have a shot while he was away. He said that he didn't tell him that the gun was loaded and gave him some cartridges.

The teacher said that Ernest Morris was not used to handling shotguns but had been in the navy where he had handled firearms.

A policeman said that when he found Ernest Morris he had the gun between his legs.

The Coroner said that he had no choice but to return an open verdict of 'Found shot, death occurring from lacerated brain'.

Ernest Morris was an engineer.
