The body of a newly born baby was found in a beck in Grangefield Estate, Stockton on Saturday 2 February 1938.
On the same day another dead baby was found in the compartment of a railway carriage that was standing in a siding at Stockton Station but it was later reported that the two findings were a coincidence.
The child was found wrapped up in newspaper lying in about three inches of water.
A doctor said that he thought that the child had died about a week earlier and had breathed. He said that he thought that the cause of death was due to inattention at birth.
