Baby

Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 30 Sep 1939

Place: River Leen, Radford Colliery

The body of a newly-born child was found in the River Leen near Radford Colliery.

The medical evidence stated that the child died from a fractured skull and contusion of the brain.

However, the inquest heard that there was no evidence to show whether the injuries were accidental or whether they were the result of any act of violence.

The doctor that carried out the post-mortem said that there was an absence of water in the child’s lungs and stomach and thought that the child might have been dead before it entered the water.

He said that although the child was newly born, he didn't think that the skull fracture could have been caused during birth saying that the fracture was in the wrong position for that.
