The body of a newly-born male child was found on a footpath between Preston Grange Farm, Preston and Marden Farm, Whitley Bay.
It was found by two boys that had been out with their Alsatian dog looking for rats. They said that their dog began to sniff around at a grass mound in which there was a hole with a big stone in front of it. They said that they thought their dog had found some rats and so rolled the stone away from the hole and said that to their surprise they found the body of the child in the hole.
