The body of a newly-born child was found in the Grand Union Canal at Paddington.
A policeman said that he went to the Grand Union Canal, Paddington at 11.30am on Monday 20 February 1939 and saw the body of the child floating in the water. He said that he got some grappling hooks and pulled it to the bank and then took it out and removed it to the mortuary.
The divisional surgeon that examined the child's body said that the cause of death was inattention at birth. He said that the child weighed eight pounds and was fully developed. The surgeon added that the child's lungs were fully extended.
