The body of a newly-born female child was found beside the Station Hotel Garage in North Road in Durham.
The body was found wrapped up in brown paper with a note that read, 'Please put my baby at rest. I am homeless, no money. May God punish him who has caused this. Broken-hearted mother'.
The doctor that examined the child said that the child had had a separate existence for a short while and was of the opinion that the cause of death was smothering due to lack of attention at birth.
