Anthony Curtis was found dead in the Manchester Canal near Water Street in Castleford on 15 June 2003.
He had been on prison leave at the time after previously having been convicted of the manslaughter of 28-year-old Ben Kamanalagi in Salford in 2001. He had been convicted alongside another man.
