Scott Buchanan

Age: 23

Sex: male

Date: 12 Nov 2008

Place: Callaghan Drive, Tividale, West Midlands

Scott Buchanan was shot on his doorstep in Callaghan Drive, Tividale on 12 November 2008 just after 9pm.

Two men had called at his house and knocked at the door. When his mother answered they forced the door inwards and assaulted her, causing her a head injury. It was heard that she had been sandwiched between the attackers and Scott Buchanan.

She then went off for help. However, whilst she was gone the two men went back and shot Scott Buchanan with a shotgun. His brother had been asleep upstairs at the time.

They had used a 12-gauge shotgun and had shot him in the chest.

Four people were arrested during the police investigation, but no one was charged. The police took nearly 1,000 witness statements.

However, the murder investigation revealed that the family had been involved in a lucrative drugs racket and in April 2010 Scott Buchanan's mother and brother were convicted of drugs related charges. The police had found £14,250 cash and £27,680 worth of cocaine and amphetamines in their home.

Scott Buchanan’s brother was convicted of possessing cocaine and amphetamine with intent to supply and sentenced to six years whilst his mother was convicted of acquiring criminal property and money laundering and sentenced to 12 months.

However, the police said that they had an open mind as to whether Scott Buchanan had been murdered in relation to the drugs operation, noting that a number of hypotheses were explored and that the reason for his murder remained unclear.
