A newly-born child was left in a bag outside St Peter's Church in Bramley and died shortly after being found.
The child had been left on the doorstep of the vicarage in a Tesco 'bag for life' at 9am and was taken to hospital by ambulance but died soon after.
The child had been wrapped up in a blue striped towel and a white 15 inch collar man's shirt with a Dunnes label. The police said that their forensic examination of the items showed that the shirt had been regularly worn by a woman.
The police said that they were able to take DNA from the shirt but said that they did not have a record of it in their database.
The police said that they were not treating the child’s death as suspicious.
