Aiden Cairns died at the Royal Preston Hospital after being found not breathing at an address in Church Street, Preston.
A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and the man was later charged with his murder, but when the case came to court the prosecution offered no evidence. A charge of neglect was also withdrawn.
