John Stuart Wilcock died after being knocked down by a pedal-powered quadricycle that was being driven by four youths on New Brighton promenade on at about 4.15pm on 22 July 2014.

The youths stopped momentarily after knocking him down, but then go t back on and drove off, driving off towards Fort Perch Rock.

John Wilcock was taken to Arrowe Park hospital and released after some treatment for multiple injuries, which were said to include swelling, bruising and head trauma, however, he had already been suffering from cancer and his condition got worse and he went back to a hospital in Liverpool where he died on Monday 28 July 2014.

He had been walking along New Brighton promenade with his wife and two boxer dogs at the time. They were between Bubbles play centre and Home Bargains when the quadricycle came up behind them and knocked John Wilcock down.

Two 15-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a 17-year old youth were later arrested by the police. It was heard that they had been seen riding the quadricycle about antisocially along the promenade.

The quadricycle was pedal-powered and had been rented.

However, nothing more about the case is known.

He was a retired marine engineer and a company director and had three children.
