Stephen McGovern

Age: 37

Sex: male

Date: 4 Oct 2007

Place: Avonspark Street, Barmulloch, Glasgow

Stephen McGovern was stabbed at a flat in Avonspark Street, Barmulloch at about 7.45pm on Thursday 4 October 2007. He was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he died soon after.

Three men were later seen to run away from the flat.

Two men were tried for his murder in 2008, but no conviction details are noted.

Stephen McGovern  was said to have been related to one of the most notorious criminal families in Glasgow. He had been the cousin of Tony McGovern who was shot dead in 2000 outside the New Morvern pub in Springburn. However, it was also said that it was not thought that his murder itself was connected with organised crime.

It was also noted that another member of his family was later shot three times whilst he was in the shower at his home in Bishopbriggs but that he survived.
