Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 5 May 1941

Place: Penzance Railway Station, Penzance, Cornwall

The body of a newly born child was found in a parcel on a train at Penzance on 5 May 1941.

The body was found by a cleaner who had lived at Chyanmor in Long Rock.

The train was a Paddington to Penzance train.

The doctor that carried out the post-mortem said that the child had been born healthy and breathed and that in his opinion had been dead for about three to five days. He said that the condition of its lungs and blood suggested that it had been suffocated, but he said that there were no marks on the child’s body.

The police said that the carriage that the child was found in had been sent from Plymouth to St Thomas Station in Exeter to make up the train.

An open verdict was returned.
